1.2 acres in the middle of Santa Monica

Award-winning, light-filled, and entirely owned by the school. Three sides of one city block.

Since the school's inception in 1971, PS1 has carefully grown into a robust and vibrant campus in the heart of Santa Monica.

The campus resides on 1.2 acres, which includes approximately 30,500 square feet of buildings and two expansive play yards. One of them is home to the oldest coastal live oak tree in Santa Monica.

Bright, spacious classrooms designed to bring learning to life feature their own outdoor areas, shared workrooms, and easy flow to the Library, Art, PE, Music, Spanish, and The STEAM Studio. PS1's play areas are some of the most innovative elementary school playgrounds in Southern California.

Sustainability, on the record

PS1 owns its campus

Through sustainable fundraising and strategic collaboration with the Board of Directors, the school owns all of its buildings as well as the soil beneath them. PS1 families of today enjoy that legacy and ensure it continues by contributing to the ongoing fiscal health of the school.

Green Business Certification, 2020

The application process took almost a year. The certification recognizes the many steps PS1 continues to take to build sustainable practices into its operations.

The Santa Monica Green Business Certification Program is an official program of the City of Santa Monica and part of the California Green Business Program Network.

Sustainable Quality Award, Grand Prize

In March 2018 the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce again named PS1 the grand prize winner of the Sustainable Quality Award for excellence in sustainable economic development, social responsibility, and stewardship of the environment.

It was the school's fourth Santa Monica sustainability award and its second SQA grand prize.
