The cluster system
Classrooms are organized into clusters that build community across rooms and give students a peer group to learn and play with.
Youngers
Kindergarten and 1st. Three classrooms.
Bridge
2nd grade. One classroom.
Middles
3rd and 4th. Two classrooms.
Olders
5th and 6th. Three classrooms.
The practical answers
Location
1225 Broadway, Santa Monica, CA 90404. Three sides of one block, 1.2 acres.
Hours of care
7:30am to 6:00pm, including before-school care and aftercare.
World language
Spanish, for every student in every grade.
Grades
No letter grades. Narrative report cards, rubrics from third grade, and two conferences a year.
Sports teams
None. PS1 is non-competitive. PE runs up to three times a week and many students join community teams after school.
