Math Mornings
Twice a month before school, families sharpen their problem-solving together. Challenge problems come at several levels of spice, and grown-ups are invited to work alongside their mathematicians.
Care from 7:30am to 6:00pm, plus enrichment that pulls families onto campus rather than just children.
Learning and fun continue before and after school through a wide range of enrichment classes and Extended Day programs.
Whether trying a new hobby, going deeper into an existing interest, or simply spending time with friends in a supportive space, students experience PS1's community-centered approach all day long.
Childcare on campus from 7:30am to accommodate families' schedules.
Led by skilled childcare associates and open to all students after classes end. Rich with variety and room for both rambunctious and quiet play, with several planned activities each day. Students can also join the PS1 Chorus, Clubhouse classes, and the Parent-in-Residence program.
Outside vendors run workshops each trimester. Recent ones include ballet, Professor Egghead Secret Agents, basketball, LEGO engineering, Chess Wizards, theatre arts, dance, Sounds Like LA, soccer, and Spanish.
Several of these are open to grown-ups too, which is deliberate.

School-wide assemblies on Friday mornings. The community sings, dances, shows work from across the clusters, and hosts outside speakers. Speaking at Circle Time is real practice in public speaking.
Once a month the school gathers in the library over breakfast to hear a VIP reader share a favorite story. Each class sponsors one through the year.
Lessons through our partnership with Sounds Like LA, formerly the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra. Violin, cello, bass, trumpet, clarinet, flute, percussion, guitar, improvisation, and chamber ensemble.
Sixth graders concentrate their leadership in focus areas: Admissions Ambassadors, service learning, school spirit, Circle Time announcing, and fundraising for their class gift.
Parents share a hobby, a talent, or part of their working life in an afternoon workshop. Past sessions have covered scrapbooking, pastry making, sailing, and jewelry making.
