Students are considered for admission on their qualifications, without regard to their family's financial status.

Payment plans
Tuition may be paid annually, semi-annually, or on an extended payment plan.
How tuition assistance works
The decision to admit a student and the decision to provide tuition assistance are two separate, simultaneous processes.
Assistance is provided on the basis of demonstrated financial need, with two priorities. The first is to increase the socioeconomic diversity of the student body. The second is to support currently enrolled students in completing their PS1 education.
We believe the primary financial responsibility for a student's education rests with the family. Because available funds are generous but limited, we expect families applying to have made use of all other available resources.
Applying for assistance
PS1 is a member of Clarity, an organization that helps independent schools manage tuition assistance. The whole application runs through Clarity, which pulls IRS tax information to make the process more efficient for families.
In the case of separation or divorce, both parents must submit required materials. Families must reapply every year. Relevant forms are emailed in early January, and the deadline for 2027-28 is February 9, 2027.
Where the funding comes from
The program is funded by a combination of operating income, endowment income, and contributions from our families and community.
Beyond tuition
As a school built around participation, we rely on our parent community to contribute in ways big and small, as they are able. Parents are involved in everything from planning and running large events to fundraising and leading committees.
Questions about affording PS1?
Ask early. The admissions office would rather have the conversation at the start than have a family rule themselves out.
