Melva Thompson
Teacher
Melva comes from a large family that taught her to appreciate love, laughter, and togetherness. As a lifelong learner, she has earned an AA degree in Early Childhood Development from El Camino College, a Bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Pepperdine University. She is a mother to three children and enjoys reading science fiction novels, making slime, oil painting, and spending time with family. Her educational philosophy promotes her belief that all children should be included academically and socially through creative methods. Inspired by her personal experiences, Melva founded a non-profit organization providing inclusive arts activities to children and families with exceptional needs. She has also worked as a behavior interventionist, one-to-one school aide, and program director. She is entering her 5th full year teaching at PS1.
