Teacher

Born in New York City, and raised in Louisville, KY, Yvonne's passion for education was nurtured as part of her Creativity Action and Service project during her high school years as an IB (International Baccalaureate) student. She continued her academic journey during her undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked as a Teacher's Assistant for four years and as an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapist for two years. Upon graduation, Yvonne joined Teach for America, moving even further west for her first teaching position as a 4th grade teacher at a bilingual elementary school in Los Angeles. She earned her California teaching credential and ELL (English Language Learner) certification through UCLA and went on to work as an Assistant Principal, Principal and Instructional Coach in three Los Angeles charter networks. Yvonne continued her post graduate learning at UCLA through the Principal's Leadership Institute (PLI). Yvonne is beginning her 18th year in education and her 3rd at PS1. Outside of school hours you might find Yvonne at a local Santa Monica park with her 4 year old daughter, taking a yoga or barre class, hiking, or enjoying the LA restaurant scene.
